In Michigan, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s March 21 EO required hospitals, freestanding surgical outpatient facilities, dental facilities, and all state-operated outpatient facilities to postpone all non-essential procedures.
Although it’s currently scheduled to expire May 28, Jeremiah Hodshire, Hillsdale Hospital’s vice president and CEO, said each day Whitmer’s current EO limits medical services is another day closer to complete failure, with losses already exceeding $4 million per month.
“Unless she makes some changes very soon, it’s possible we don’t make it,” Hodshire said. “Along with taking a reduction in pay, I’ve unfortunately had to lay off 80 of my 487 employees. That’s 18% of our workforce which includes seven administrators.”
